Notifications
Hear about what matters to you, even when DevHub is closed.
DevHub can show a notification on your computer or phone when someone messages you, assigns you a task or mentions you. Clicking it opens the right page. Everything still lands in your Inbox as well; notifications only make sure you don't have to keep checking it.
Turning them on
Notifications are turned on per device: your laptop and your phone each need it once.
- Open Your profile (your name at the bottom of the sidebar).
- Under Notifications, click Turn on notifications on this device.
- Your browser asks whether DevHub may show notifications. Choose Allow.
- Click Send a test to check it arrives.
Your devices lists every browser and phone you turned it on in. To stop notifications on the device you're using, click Turn off on this device; to stop them on another one (an old laptop, say), click Remove next to it.
On an iPhone or iPad
Apple only allows notifications for web apps on the Home Screen. In Safari, tap Share → Add to Home Screen, open DevHub from that icon, and turn notifications on there. On Android, Chrome works straight away; installing DevHub as an app is optional (see Install it as an app).
What you hear about
You choose what you're notified about. The choice applies to all your devices. You only see the options for parts of DevHub you have access to.
| Notification | When | On at first |
|---|---|---|
| Direct messages | Someone sends you a message. | Yes |
| Assigned to you | Someone puts your name on a task. | Yes |
| Mentions and comments | Someone @mentions you, or comments on a task you're on. | Yes |
| Important announcements | The admins post an announcement marked important. | Yes |
| Task updates | A task you wait on is done, or a task you follow is finished. | No |
| Deadlines | One of your tasks is due soon or overdue. | No |
| Playtest feedback | A tester sends feedback on a playtest you organise. | No |
| Expenses | A purchase request needs a decision, yours was decided, or someone paid you back. | No |
| New bug reports | A bug is reported (for people who triage). | No |
| Your bug reports | A bug you reported was accepted, fixed or closed. | No |
You're never notified about something you did yourself. When several things happen to the same task, chat or bug, the newest notification replaces the previous one, so a burst of messages shows up as one ("Lotte (3 new)").
Message previews
With Show message previews on, a notification includes the start of the message or comment. Turn it off if other people can see your screen: notifications then only say who and where, like "New message from Lotte" or "Sam commented on TASK-12".
Quiet hours
Turn on Hold notifications at night and pick when they start and end, in your own timezone (the one in your profile). During those hours nothing arrives. When they end, you get one summary, such as "4 updates while you were away". If you already caught up in DevHub in the meantime, there's no summary.
Not getting them?
- "Notifications are blocked": you (or the browser) said no earlier. Click the icon left of the address bar, allow notifications for DevHub, and reload the page.
- The test says it was sent, but nothing shows: check your computer's or phone's own settings. Do Not Disturb, Focus modes and Windows' notification settings for your browser can all hide them.
- iPhone: make sure you opened DevHub from the Home Screen icon, not in Safari.
- It stopped working on a device: browsers sometimes drop a subscription. Turn notifications on again on that device.
Notifications travel through your browser maker's push service (Google, Mozilla, Apple or Microsoft). They're encrypted on the way: the push service can't read them.
